video game console

We finally have some reliable details about both of the most highly awaited video game consoles among gamers all over the world. We are obviously talking about the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Both of the video game consoles are due to hit the markets towards the end of 2020.

As the release date comes closer, we continuously have more official information about the flagship consoles. We are aware that these two consoles are about to be the most powerful video game consoles to date.

Today, we will be comparing every aspect of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X to help you choose the best one for you. Obviously, we do not have absolutely everything about these consoles yet, so the comparison is still premature, but we can anticipate the winner as of now.

PlayStation 5 vs. Xbox Series X specs

We will compare the specs for PS 5 and Xbox Series X in two stages, first, we will talk about those specs that are similar in both of the video game consoles. Both of these consoles offer a 4K UHD Blu-ray Optical Disc Drive, up to 120 fps frame rate, up to 8K resolution, and 16GB GDDR RAM.

While some other specs are distinct, like the storage, as PS 5 offers an 825 GB custom SSD Storage in comparison to the 1 TB custom NVMe SSD8-core proposed by the Xbox Series X, the CPU, PlayStation 5 packs an 8-core 3.8 GHz AMD Zen 2 CPU in comparison to the 8-core 3.8 GHz AMD Zen 2 offered by Xbox Series X, the GPU, PS5 has a 10.3 teraflop AMD RDNA 2 GPU in comparison to Xbox series X’s 12.0 teraflop AMD RDNA 2.

At a glance, apart from a few of the things being similar, Xbox series X specs are slightly more offering than the PS5 specs. But, the specs are not the deciding factor, and other areas are to be considered before making the final choice regarding which video game console is better.

Xbox Series X vs. PS 5 price

Before going any further in this aspect, we have to say that neither of the two manufactures has released official prices for these consoles yet. All we can do right now is to make our guess about the asking price.

The PS4 was launched at $400 seven years back, and the Xbox One was priced at $500 in the same year. It isn’t easy to adjust these prices to the current market scenario. In 2013, Sony had to revive its demand after the PlayStation 3, while Microsoft was of the opinion that they have the best video game machine on their hands.

Most price analysts are estimating the prices of both the video game consoles to be around $500, but again we cannot back these guesses unless we have a price.

Xbox Series X vs. PS 5 design

Microsoft has gone creative with the design of Xbox Series X; you will see a conservative vertical PC tower design in the new Xbox. Along with the tower, it comes with a sleek black chassis and a compact, quality logo in the upper-left corner.  It is a big risk in design by Microsoft as there are many gamers that prefer a traditional horizontal design due to a lack of vertical space.

Sony’s PS5 design features a black rectangle surrounded by a couple of white fins, which looks new, to say the least.

It is not for us to say whether the PS5 design is better than the Xbox design just yet, as there is only a limited visual experience available from the pics and videos.

Xbox Series X vs. PS 5 exclusives

Traditionally, the PlayStation has always had an edge when it comes to exclusives, and the same stands true for the new version. Till now, we are sure about a few official upcoming exclusives for both video game consoles.

The Xbox Series X does have some enthusiastic and exciting exclusives planned like Senua’s Saga: Hellblade II and Halo Infinite. But, let’s be honest, these exclusive are not really ‘exclusives’ for the Xbox series X as these games will most likely also be available on PC, which is what Microsoft does.

On the other hand, PS5 has some real exclusives that have pumped up the geeks, some of them are: Horizon: Forbidden, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart West.

It goes without saying that if you like to play new and popular games just as they are launched, PS5 is the way to go. Xbox exclusives are impressive too, but the possibility of playing them on a PC decreases their value.

PS 5 vs. Xbox Series X graphics

On the books, you can say that Xbox Series X will have better overall graphics. But the exact improvements cannot be determined until we play some games on the two consoles.

You can refer to the specifications of both the video game consoles at the beginning of the article to come to a conclusion. The Xbox Series X is set to provide identical gaming performance to the PS5 if not better.

PS 5 vs. Xbox Series X backward compatibility

Backward compatibility is one of the most asked about features from the gamers around the world. They want to expand their games library and not limit it to newer games only. As it stands, both the companies have been very dedicated to addressing this demand, and right now, we can say that the Xbox has more robust options for supporting backward compatibility.

Microsoft has already announced that all of the Xbox One games will be playable on the Xbox Series X. Moreover, if you buy an Xbox One game from the Xbox Series X, you will also get the Xbox Series X version after upgrading the console.

Many Original Xbox and Xbox 360 games are also playable on the Xbox Series X. Sony is trying the catch-up as well. They are using universalized software to run PS4 games on PS5, but the optimization is not great on all titles.

If you are looking for this feature specifically, then there is no competition between the two video game consoles, Xbox Series X is your bet.

Outlook

Overall the Xbox does look better than the PS 5, at least on paper. But again, the amount of comparable information we have about these two consoles is solid but not complete. The final verdict may sway towards PS 5 as well.

At this moment, I would not personally pre-order either of the two consoles, and there is still too much to unravel.
