Chief of Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed, Masood Azhar, is a proven threat and it is not understood why China blocks another move at the United Nations to designate him as a global terrorist, questions Wall Street Journal.
In the Editorial section titled ‘China Shields a Jihadist – Beijing blocks a UN attempt to sanction the Kashmir killer’ it is written China is loath to upset its all-weather friendship with Pakistan.
WSJ editorial added, “…Azhar is a proven threat. Why would China give him a terror pass?”
This is the fourth time China has blocked the move taken by other countries to the UNSC to designate Masood Azhar as a global terrorist.
It is a technical hold by China to put the proposal on hold and India said the development is disappointing.
United States, United Kingdom and France moved on February 27 with the proposal to designate JeM chief under the 1267 al Qaeda Sanctions Committee of the UNSC.
Following Pulwama attack in Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir by JeM India launched attacks on the training camp of the terror outfit.
Indian government sources said 12 Mirage 2000 jets carrying 1,000 kg bomb were used in the attacks.
Pakistan has disputed such claims of India saying the operation was a failure.
Pakistan said, “There has been no damage to any infrastructure or human life as a result of Indian incursion.”
