United States President Donald Trump said Friday he is very close to a trade deal with China. However, he seems non-committed as the final outcome is just ahead. On the sidelines of G-20 Summit he will be meeting with Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping in Argentina.
His remarks came just ahead of his depart for the G-20 and lately there has been hiked tensions between US and China in terms of trade and tariffs. His administration has imposed tariffs on Chinese imports in recent months and more is to come in January. He has threatened China to be imposing tariffs on all the imports.
The same has been retaliated by China too with tariffs on US imports.
Addressing to the report the president said, “I think we’re very close to doing something with China, but I don’t know that I want to do it because what we have right now is billions and billions of dollars coming into the United States in the form of tariffs or taxes. So I really don’t know.”
All eyes at this year’s G-20 Summit would be on the meeting of Trump and Xi at a dinner on Saturday.
If believed to media reports, both the countries are currently trying to explore a trade deal in which US would hold off further tariffs.
Trump has earlier accused China of unfair trade practices. He claimed the country has in past stolen intellectual properties.
However, China has denied all such allegations.
