Uefa bans AC Milan for Europa League's next season

AC Milan is banned from playing Europa League’s next season over breaches of Financial Fair Play rules.

Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas) said, “AC Milan is excluded from Uefa club competitions of the sporting season 2019-2020.”

Ban of the club that finished fifth in Italy’s Serie A means AS Roma may move up to the group stage and its place in qualifying rounds will be taken by Torino.

AS Roma cam sixth in the standings and Torino was at seventh.

AC Milan is seven-time European champions and confirmed voluntary acceptance of the Uefa ban saying there is no other choice apart from accepting the sanctions.

Releasing a statement the football club said, “Whilst saddened by the fact that our fans will not be able to see their team compete in European competition next season, the club recognizes and respects FFP.”

The club promised to remain committed to restoring rightful place in European football.

Last summer AC Milan was imposed a two-year ban by Uefa and it was successfully appealed by the club. The ground for sanctions was breaking spending rules between 2015 and 2017.

According to Uefa rules, a club needs to remain within the permitted limits of losses over a period of three years.
