Two people have been arrested in Tanzania’s capital city Dodoma accused of urging others to protest against President John Magufuli for his increasing authoritarianism.
Police confirmed a farmer and a driver have been arrested on Wednesday for intiating protests even though people are warned testing government would not be accepted.
Police chief from the central Dodoma region Gilles Muroto said adderssing press conference that those who dare to protest would end up with broken legs and go home as cripples.
A message by an opposition activist has spread widely on social media in past few weeks with a call for nationwide protests on Arpol 26 against the government for the authoritarian leadership style of President Magufuli.
Magufuli took office in 2015. He is strongly fighting to wipe off corruption from Tanzania. His such nature has been widel criticized and people have nicknamed him as bulldozer.
Detrators say the president has clamped down on opposition heavily and is trying to suppress freedom of expression.
