Trump visits Texas border; National emergency declaration on card 1

United States President Donald Trump seems could be announcing national emergency any time soon. He is currently on a trip to McAllen in Texas and left Washington Thursday without any additional negotiations scheduled with congressional leaders for the funding of US-Mexico border wall that has led to partial government shutdown for about past three weeks.

It is true Trump now has left possibility of declaring emergency open and this would definitely bypass Congress to fund the border wall.

When asked about such a declaration on card the president said, “If this doesn’t work out, probably I will do it. I would almost say definitely.”

Trump is expected to meet Border Patrol officials in Texas and later with Fox host Sean Hannity for an interview, which will be televised Thursday night from McAllen.

Trump had earlier said the wall will be indirectly funded by the new trade deal made with Mexico, but it is doubtful if things may go as he believes.

United States Mexico Canada Agreement (USMCA) trade agreement was signed in 2018 replacing decades old North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) that eliminated tariffs between the three countries.

USMCA is not into effect now and Congress needs to ratify it, but would not be implemented soon as Democrats now control the House and government is in shutdown phase.

So, it is not yet clear how the wall will get funded through such source.
