If believed to a senior Republican lawmaker, the US Congress may not invite Russian President Vladimir Putin to address them as he may accept President Donald Trump’s invitation to visit Washington.
Lately there’s an uneasiness among the lawmakers following the recent outreach of Trump to Putin during a summit in Helsinki.
A comment by House of Representative Speaker Paul Ryan reads, “We would certainly not be giving him an invitation to do a joint session.”
Meanwhile, Trump tweeted that Russia intends to sway the US congressional elections this November in favor of Democrats.
In the tweet he revealed being concerned Russia will be trying the best to have impact on the upcoming election.
He added that it is a fact he has been the toughest on the country and it seems they may push hard for the Democrats.
Apart from this, top foreign policy aide Yury Ushakov from Russia said a US proposal has been received by them to organize a new summit in Washington.
He added, “During their meeting in Helsinki, the Presidents reached an understanding that these useful contacts be continued.”
