Texas school to be named after late Indian-American woman

Houston:  A school in Texas will be named after a woman of Indian descent.

The Fort Bend Independent School District (FBISD) board unanimously decided to name the elementary school to be set up in Texas, after Sonal Bhuchar, an Indian – American social activist, philanthropist.

 The texas school will be established in January 2023 in the Riverstone community. In 2019, Sonal Bhuchar (58) died of cancer this is to honor her legacy and all her work for the community.

Sonal Bhuchar hails from Mumbai. Graduated in Physiotherapy from the University of Bombay.

Leaving her hometown in 1984, she and her husband settled in Houston.

Sonal gained a good reputation as a social worker and a philanthropist in the community.

 Sonal Bhuchar also served on the FBISD board for a short period.

During that time she led a number of programs, including the Sonal Student Leadership Program, the Legislative Advocacy Program, the Fort Bend Education Foundation Annual International Festival, the Watch a LifeStyle Program, and the Scholarship Program.

 Sonal’s friend Usha Ganju said that it is very special to pay homage to the immigrants to America in this way.
