Tesla coming to India this year: As promised says Elon Musk

2021 is finally the TESLA year. As the U.S. electric car manufacturer, Tesla Inc plans to enter India this year, after several attempts from the past four years.

Tesla is scheduled to make it’s Model 3 debut in India at an expected ₹ 55 lakhs and Model S  ₹1,50 crore and Model X at ₹2.00 crore.

The average starting cost of an EV is less than Rs10 lakh in India.

The company also plans to concentrate on online sales.

The CEO Elon Musk said on Wednesday 8th January, breaking his silence about Tesla finally coming to India by registering it as a company in Bengaluru. With 1 lakh paid-up capital and three directors.

Elon Musk tweeted to make India his next destination in response to his 41.2 million followers: “As promised”.

It has been incorporated as Tesla India Motors and Energy Private Limited, in the registered address has in Lavelle Road, Bengaluru, which is most likely to be the headquarters of the Indian branch, according to the information on the Companies Registrar website.

On Tuesday, B. S Yediyurappa,  the Chief Minister of Karnataka, tweeted that the company is setting up its R&D center in Bengaluru will start operating in India soon.

“Karnataka will lead India’s journey towards Green Mobility. Electric Vehicle Manufacturer Tesla will soon start its operations in India with an R&D unit in Bengaluru. I welcome @elonmusk to India & Karnataka and wish him all the very best,” – Yediyurappa tweeted.

A strong pitch was taken by the Karnataka government to invite Tesla to the state.

The company is also in touch with the Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh governments, to commence its operation in India.

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said on December 29  that the company would start its sales activities and then look into production and assembly, depending on the demand in the country.

Tesla has not yet launched any of its electric cars in India or any other South Asian countries. China is the only Asian market where the electric car company has a presence.
