Tananzian famous conjoined sisters Maria and Consolate Mwakikuti took their last breath on Sunday, June 3, after battling with from cardiac problems for past several months. They were 21.
The two were minor celebrities in the country for keeping their studies continued even after high school. Last September both took admission to Ruaha Catholic University in Iringa and wished to become teachers in history, English and Swahili in their career.
The two were joined at the abdomen. After the death of their father in childhood they were abandoned by their mother. Later both were taken by a Catholic mission and taken care of.
Tanzaian President John Magufuli tweeted, “I a saddened by the death of twins, Maria and Consolata. When I last visited them at hospital they prayed for the nation. My condolences to their family… Rest in peace my children.”
Last July the twins addressed emotionally teleivision viewers urging parents should stop hiding and locking up their handicapped children.
Maria added, “They must know they as human beings, handicapped or not, are equal and have the same rights.”
The two thanked their high school teachers and support of government during their studies.
