The first semi-final between India and New Zealand was disrupted due to rain and from the same point the remaining part will be continued on the reserve day.
New Zealand was at 211 for five in 46.1 overs when World Cup Semi-Final was forced to halt due to rain that started, stopped and again started. About four hours later match officials had to announce the same will be continued on July 10, the rest day.
At the point, Ross Taylor was batting on 67 and Tom Latham was at the other end on 3.
An official tweet from the organizer read, “With the rain unrelenting, play has been called off for the day. New Zealand will resume their innings tomorrow at 10.30am on 211/5 with 3.5 overs to bat.”
Experts believe the situation is to benefit India more than New Zealand. The men in blue will get more time to make strategies on how to better chase the score.
However, if the match is reduced to fewer overs on the rest day, some advantages of India will be lost as New Zealand bowlers are more than capable and could trouble the batting line.
If the rain does not disrupt the match again, chasing around 240 will not be difficult for India as the openers are highly conservative in the first 10 overs. This has been seen in almost all the matches this World Cup.
More to this, even if the openers fail to firepower, the others like MS Dhoni and Dinesh Karthik ensures the total is chased.
