Pulwama attack: Security stripped from separatist leaders 1

Separatist leaders Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Bilal Lone, Abdul Ghani Bhat, Shabir Shah and Hashim Qureshi have been stripped off of state security and other government facilities following February 14 suicide attack in Kashmir’s Pulwama district in which more than forty CRPF jawans were killed.

Union home minister Rajnath Singh said Friday on his Srinagar visit the security given to people getting funds from neighboring Pakistan should be reviewed.

Singh added, “Some elements in J&K have links with the ISI and terrorist organizations. Their security should be reviewed.”

Hizbul Mujahideen’s terrorists killed Abdul Gani Loni in 2002 and father of Umar in 1990.

Syed Ali Shah Geelani of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat people and Yasin Malik of JKLF, the two top separatist leaders in Kashmir, are not on the list of security as Geelani is currently under house arrest while Malik has not been given security cover as well as government facility.

By Sunday evening all the security and vehicles given to the leaders will stand withdrawn and there will be no security forces or cover for them.

Hurriyat spokesman said the move is a propaganda and has no bearing on the situation in the valley.

He added, “With or without these police personnel at the Hurriyat residence, everything remains the same.”

Thursday’s attack was one of the deadliest in Jammu and Kashmir and Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad claims responsibility of it.
