According to a recent report, the tourism sector contributed significantly to employment, with 39 million jobs in 2020, constituting 8% of India’s workforce. The demand for skilled professionals in this sector surged by 44% in August last year, underscoring its recovery and growth trajectory.
In addition to its role in job creation, the travel and tourism industry is a vital contributor to India’s economy, having contributed Rs 15.9 trillion ($191.25 billion) in 2022 and expected to reach Rs 16.5 trillion in 2023. In terms of tourism destinations, states like Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Maharashtra continue to attract a large number of domestic tourists, supporting local economies and employment.
