Dismantling of nuclear rocket launch site in North Korea has begun, if the expert analysis of recent satellite images is considered.
A landmark summit between North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and United States President Donald Trump was held last month and it was wrapped up the nuclear facilities would be gradually destroyed.
Following the milestone summit Trump declared nuclear threat from North Korea is over and he pronounced himself very happy with progressive talks with Pyongyang.
The satellite images reveal North Korea has started with the work of taking down a processing building as well as a rocket-engine test stand at the Sohae Satellite Launching Station.
Sohae is on the northwest coast of the country and facility here is designed to put satellites into orbit. It has been the main such site for the North since 2012.
Meanwhile, 38 North analyst Joseph Bermudez said it is an important first step by the North Korean leader in keeping his words to Trump at a summit last month in Singapore.
Trump has then said North Korea has promised to destroy a major missile engine test site. However, he didn’t specify which site would be dismantled.
Deputy director of the presidential national security office, Nam Gwan-pyo, said it is a better sign and believe denuclearization would be done step by step.
Some of the critic experts on the other hand has cautioned against reading too much into the work described by the analyst.
Hanham tweeted, “Unless they dismantle the whole siet, it will remain North Korea’s premier location for space launches.”
