NEET Controversy Sparks Parliamentary Clash - Opposition Demands Answers

The Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government is facing serious allegations from the opposition regarding irregularities in examinations, particularly the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET). In response, the INDIA alliance, a coalition of opposition parties, announced plans to bring adjournment motions on the NEET issue in both houses of Parliament. This decision emerged from a meeting at Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge’s residence.

On Thursday, the opposition resolved to raise several critical issues during the parliamentary debate on President Droupadi Murmu’s address. These issues include NEET, inflation, unemployment, and the alleged misuse of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the Enforcement Directorate (ED), and the governor’s office. The opposition members are also set to assemble at the Gandhi statue in the Parliament complex on Monday to demonstrate their unity and resolve.

Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh stated, “Several issues were discussed today in the meeting…There will be a debate on all the issues in the Parliament whether the President’s address or the election of the speaker.” The opposition is clearly gearing up for a comprehensive discussion on the government’s accountability.

The allegations of irregularities in NEET and other examinations, such as the cancellations of UGC-NET, CSIR UGC-NET, and NEET-PG, have put the NDA government under intense scrutiny. In her address to the joint session of Parliament, President Droupadi Murmu emphasized the government’s commitment to fair investigations and transparency in competitive examinations and government recruitment. She stated, “Whether it is competitive examinations or government recruitment, there should be no reason for any hindrance. This process requires complete transparency and probity. Regarding the recent instances of paper leak in some examinations, my government is committed to a fair investigation and ensuring strict punishment to the culprits.”

However, the opposition remains unsatisfied with these assurances. Kharge criticized the Modi government’s response, asserting, “Modi Government cannot run away from its responsibility by just simply saying that ‘we should rise above partisan politics’. The youth is demanding justice. Union Education Minister will have to take responsibility for this. Every second youth in the country is unemployed, and no concrete policy to eliminate unemployment has emerged from this speech.”

The opposition’s stance reflects a broader dissatisfaction with the government’s handling of issues affecting young people, particularly in the realms of education and employment. By bringing these adjournment motions and raising these issues during the parliamentary session, the opposition aims to hold the government accountable and push for tangible solutions to the problems faced by the youth of India.

The coming days in Parliament are set to be contentious as the opposition leverages these issues to challenge the government’s performance and demand accountability. The debate will not only focus on the alleged irregularities in NEET but also encompass broader concerns about unemployment and economic stability, highlighting the opposition’s strategy to address multiple grievances simultaneously.
