Finally the wait to create history for Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) is going to end when its Chandrayan-2 will make a soft landing on the surface of moon in the early hours of Saturday.
With the successful landing of Chandrayan-2 on the lunar surface India will become the fourth country to achieve a soft landing after Russia, United States and China.
However, India will be first to make a landing on the south pole of the moon.
The landing will happen between 1.30 am and 2.30 am, night of Friday and Saturday, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be present at the ISRO centre in Bengaluru with about 70 school students to witness live the space feat.
According to ISRO, the Chandrayan-2 will make a soft landing in a high plain between Mazinus C and Simpelius N craters and at a latitude of about 70 south.
The space chairman K Sivan said the Lunar Orbit Insertion (LOI) manoeuvre will start from about 30 km above the surface and it will take 15 minutes to cover the final journey.
Sivan added, “This 15 minutes travel of lander is new to ISRO. It is for the first time we are going to another body where there is no atmosphere and using the propulsion system we will have to break the velocity and bring the vehicle safely to soft land.”
He further said that a perfect balance between gravity and thrust is to be maintained to achieve soft landing. To make it possible thrust of the engine is to be modulated. Once landing is done, rover Pragyaan will roll out in the early morning, between 5.30 am and 6.30 am.
