New Delhi: Leading payment company Mobikwik has shocking news for its users.
News that hackers who stole the information of millions of Mobikwik users have put it up for sale on the DarkWeb has caused a stir among Mobikwik users.
Back on February 26 Rajshekhar Rajaharia an independent security researcher found a hacker selling MobiKwik user’s PAN number, Bank account, Aadhaar card data, and other details on the dark web which were shared by users during the KYC procedure.
“Card data, personal details, and KYC soft copy (PAN, Aadhaar, etc.) of 11 crore Indian cardholders have been leaked from a company server in India. 8.2 terabytes (TB) of data were stolen, including no-you-customer details, addresses, phone numbers, and Aadhaar card data related to Mobikwik”
He also posted screenshots in this regard. Information that this data was put up for sale for 1.5 bitcoin or $ 86,000.
Estimation says 37 million files, 3.5 million KYC details, 100 million phone numbers, emails, passwords, geodata, bank accounts, CC data are out on the dark web.
Another renowned french hacker Elliott Alderson took to Twitter saying “Probably the biggest KYC data leak in history. Congratulations Mobikwik.” Backing Rajaharia’s claim on the data breach.
Independent security researcher Indrajeet Bhuyan also said the leaked data contained phone numbers, email IDs, and KYC details, making it easier for scammers to access.
But Mobikwik is repeatedly denying the news back from February calling the informers media-crazed.
A spokesman from Mobikwik said the company had thoroughly investigated the allegations and that their users’ data was “completely secure”. And have denied the rumors of some so-called security investigators.
Mobikwik has gotten into serious trouble with the Data breach news at a bad time when it was planning a major IPO in September this year hoping to raise $ 200-250 million.
