On July 7th, Haitian President Jovenel Moise was brutally murdered by unidentified men at his official residence. His wife, Martine Moise, was also severely injured in the attack. She was airlifted from Haiti and brought to Florida, Miami, the United States for treatment.

Martine Moise came back to Haiti after her treatment in Florida on 19th July. She was escorted with high security and was seen wearing an arm sling and a bulletproof vest.

She returned to Haiti to prepare for her husband’s funeral, which was held on July 24th. The former Haiti President was peacefully buried on the day with the government respect.

She spoke to the New York Times on Friday about the attack. She expressed the horrifying incident of how the assassins searched the house to ensure she wasn’t alive.

On this occasion, Matine Moise said, ‘ I thought I was dead too, so did they and left me.”

Martine Moise also remarked foul play in her husband’s assassination. “My husband is always surrounded by 30-50 security personnel. My husband was killed when there were so many presents. Another surprise was that none of my husband’s security guards were killed, let alone seriously injured. The system has gutted my husband. ” she suspected that it was not some random killing but a planned murder to get her late husband down the president’s post.

“We were in a deep sleep at the time of the incident,” Martine Moise said. We heard the sound of gunfire. My husband immediately called his security team for help. The assassin broke into our bedroom and opened fire. My husband died in the incident. My hand and elbow were injured. I had severe bleeding on one side; on the other hand, I seemed to suffocate. The assassins spoke only Spanish.”

Martine Moise further added. ” He communicated by phone with someone when the assassins attacked. I do not know what the killers took from our room. but my husband blew up the shelf where the files are kept. ‘

“Those who killed my husband want me to be scared and stay out of politics,” Martine said. But their hopes were not fulfilled. I will run for the presidency after I recover. I want to catch and severely punish those who killed my husband. Otherwise, they will kill every single president who comes to power. If the thugs who killed my husband are not punished, the atrocities that have taken place now will happen again and again.

Jovenel Moise, 53, came to power in 2017. Since then, he has made every effort to increase his power. The courts, government contractors, auditors, and intelligence agencies have decided to hold the president accountable. He failed to hold elections in the country. This led to strong opposition to the president. Opposition leaders have been demanding his resignation for some time.

According to claims, he was supposed to get down from his post this year, but he kept denying it, saying it was 2022, which had angered the opposite parties. Now, after his brutal assassination, his wife Martine Moise is stepping up and is ready to contest for the next presidential election.
