God’s most beautiful gift to mankind is those two eyes that help us discover new things every day. If we close our eyes for ten minutes that endless darkness seeps in and the panic of being unable to see takes over us. Imagine the life of blind people every. They survive every day with not being able to see this beautiful world. There is a reason they say we should thank our stars for what we have and we will only know the value of it when we don’t.

 World Sight Day is celebrated on the second Thursday of October every year with the aim of raising awareness about vision loss, blindness, and vision problems.

The International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness has announced that it will celebrate this day on October 14 this year under the slogan Love Your Eyes.

In the year 2000, the Lions Club International Foundation’s Site‌ First Campaign launched World Vision Day. The program has since been run by the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness as part of the Vision Global Initiative. The campaign calls on everyone around the world to participate and focus on their eye health.

By 2030, member states have set two new world goals. They aim to achieve a 40 percent growth in refractive error prevention and a 30 percent increase in cataract surgery coverage. It is hoped that this will also play a key role in providing quality services in eye care in the future.

Some are congenitally visually impaired and some are age-related. In addition to these two, experts say that human negligence is also a factor in the current living conditions. In fact, billions of people worldwide suffer from preventable vision impairment. Moreover, it is possible to prevent 80 percent of people in the world from blindness. 

According to the World Health Organization, at least one billion people worldwide suffer from near or far vision impairment (myopia or hypertropia). This is a preventable problem. While children, young people, and the elderly all suffer from these problems, the majority are over 50 years old.

 Infectious eye diseases, including cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, affect a person’s vision with age. These can lead to permanent vision loss if not treated in time.

With minimal precautions, some simple treatments can prevent most vision defects. Pollution, accidents, vitamin deficiencies, chemical industry workers, working long hours on computers, laptops, and smartphones also carry the risk of eye damage.

Relevant tests from time to time, however, require attention. Unfortunately, most of us or every second or third person is supposed to be suffering from some kind of eye problem or disease. While some of them may not be as severe, some can be quite fatal. Hence the need for pre-tests.

Otherwise, cataracts, damage to the nerves of the eye and many other vision-related problems can occur. UV-protected sunglasses should be used to protect from excessive sun. Eyeglasses should be worn if working with hazardous chemicals or tools. Spending too much time in front of a computer can cause dry eyes. To prevent this, make sure to close and open your eyes several times (blink‌). It is advisable to wear anti-glare glasses. Excessive use of steroids and painkillers is the main reason for this. In addition to providing good nutrition for the prevention of eye problems in children, at least one hour a day to make sure they play outside in the sun for six hours.
