Kashmir Valley is completely peaceful: DG of police

Amid restrictions and unprecedented security cover in the Valley the director general of police Dilbagh Singh said situation across Jammu and Kashmir is completely peaceful.

The Centre scrapped Article 370 on Monday that gives special status to Jammu and Kashmir and bifurcated the state into two union territories – Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh.

There is a virtual communications blackout in Srinagar. Only handful of internet connections and phones are functioning.

Jammu and Kashmir governor Satya Pal Malik reviewed the situation of the Valley Monday night with senior officials.

Raj Bhawan spokesperson confirmed meeting of the governor was held with top officials.

Earlier today union home minister Amit Shah said J&K is an integral part of India and this include the Pok as well as Aksai Chin.

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor asked Amit Shah to lead an all-party delegation to the Valley to make them see the situation in the region.

Meanwhile, Ladakh MP Jamyang Tsering said in Lok Sabha on Tuesday he and other leaders of the area had earlier asked for separation from J&K state.

The leader added that in 2011 the UPA government had given an university to Ladakh but it was taken away by Jammu and Kashmir, but now the Modi government has given them a university.

Bharatiya Janata Party leader Pralhad Joshi said when the entire country is celebrating free of Jammu and Kashmir from Article 370, the Congress party is speaking in the voice of Pakistan.
