Joe Biden And Vladimir Putin Are Committed To Improve Their Ties After Geneva Summit

A highly anticipated first summit between POTUS Joe Biden and Russian President Vladimir Putin was held in Geneva, finished early on Wednesday.

Stated by both sides as a sequence of polite but strongly articulated arguments regarding whether the country is a stronger driver of global disruption.

Putin said the meeting took place in a cordial atmosphere, and there was no animosity between the two. Negotiations took place constructively.

He said the two countries had agreed to start talks on an agreement on a nuclear limit to resolve differences between them. It was decided to hold talks on cybersecurity as well. “There was no feeling of hostility between us during the negotiations. We have concluded the talks earlier than expected,” said Putin.

Prior to the talks, Biden described the Geneva summit as a meeting between two great powers. He commented that face-to-face discussion is always good. At the beginning, the two leaders did not look so comfortable.

In the last few months, there has been intense criticism and counter-criticism between the two leaders. After the talks, the two leaders held separate press conferences. First, Putin and then Biden told the media the details of the talks separately.

“No hostility,” Putin remarked of the Geneva summit.

Biden said, “I did what I came to do,” including the establishment for the president of Russia and a series of warnings and red lines that he insisted on were not “threats.”

Putin said the two countries had agreed in principle to hold talks on the issue of cybersecurity.

The U.S. has accused Russia of hacking the websites of business and government agencies in the United States.

Putin has denied the allegations. During the talks, Putin said Biden had raised the issue of human rights and the imprisonment of opposition leader Navalny.

Biden emerged slightly optimistic at the revival of America’s connections with Europe, which has cautioned Putin not to make any moves against US interests.

Biden added at his news conference that Putin was the struggling leader of a declined economy who was anxious about the expansionist and hostile China’s development on his border.

He added, “I think the last thing he wants now is a Cold War.”

But Biden also stated he had given the Russian leader a list of 16 “critical infrastructure” examples and that if they were targeted, “We have substantial cybersecurity.”

Biden stated that no rhetoric and no discussion of military interference; he called the meeting “simple assertions.”

But his warning that speeding up Russian cyber operations could be an indication that the daily cyber-conflict among major and weaker powers, including China, Iran, and North Korea, is escalating significantly.

U.S. authorities have generally been scared of big cyberattacks from Russia since they believe that they could not manage the escalation of strikes and counter-attacks.

While Biden has started an effort to reduce US asset vulnerability from pipelines to power plants, although it would take many years and everything still cannot be protected.

Putin denied the allegations stating Russia had not been responsible for the number of threats against the United States.

His denial appeared to cover both the high-level attacks- SolarWinds, exposed in December, that U.S. authorities said had been launched from Russia’s primary spy agencies, and ransomware attacks that Biden has said came from criminals harbored on Russian soil.

Putin turned the allegations towards Washington in his news conference, claiming that the US was the leader of a significantly greater number of harmful cyber campaigns than Russia.

Putin therefore refused but had not guaranteed that he was planning on changing Russia’s behavior. He also did not take responsibility for the violation of human rights or the invasion of sections of Ukraine. Plainly stating he wanted nothing but a better connection with the United States.

When asked about his opponent Alexei Navalny’s imprisonment, Putin responded that Alexei had violated the law.

In addition, the Russian leader spoke about the murder of George Floyd by the Minneapolis police officer, and questioned “What about Guantánamo? Referring to the detention facility, where a minor number of inmates are still being taken from the fighting fields by the United States.
