BJP conceded defeat in Jharkhand assembly election winning just 25 seats of 81 while the opposition alliance, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), grabbed 47, crossing the majority mark of 41.
Saffron leader and outgoing chief minister Raghubar Das conceded defeat in the tribal dominated state. He lost his CM chair as well as his MLA seat.
Former chief minister Hemant Soren will be reclaiming the CM office that he lost in 2014 to Raghubar Das.
Raghubar Das lost to former cabinet colleague and party rebel Saryu Roy in Jamshedpur (East). Roy contested as independent candidate.
Das said it is his own defeat and not that of the BJP. He had won the Jamshedpur (East) seat for five consecutive terms.
Halfway the counting of votes on Monday with indication to form government, the 44-year-old went to house of his father, Shibu Soren, to seek blessings.
Shibu Soren is the chief of JMM and had been in CM office for three times.
Addressing to the press Hemant Soren said, “Today a new chapter will begin for this state. I want to assure everyone that their hopes will not be broken irrespective of their caste, creed, religion and profession.”
The Jharkhand election results came as another setback for the Amit Shah-led BJP. The party earlier lost Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh. Maharashtra too slipped out lately due to power-sharing dispute over ally Shiv Sena.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections BJP bagged 11 of 14 constituencies in the state.
