Indian Premier League matches will henceforth not be televised on Pakistan’s television. A decision was taken by the country’s cabinet meeting chaired by former cricketer-turned Prime Minister Imran Khan.
An announcement said the request came from Information Ministry following Indian broadcaster DSport stopped airing the Pakistan Super League in the wake of Kashmir’s Pulwama terror attack earlier this year in February in which more than forty national security personnel were killed.
Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry said, “India made an organized effort to harm cricket in Pakistan and it doesn’t make sense for us to allow an Indian domestic tournament to be promoted here.”
Mid-tournament the PSL had to scramble finding a new production company after Indian company IMG Reliance pulled out of a deal of airing the matches worldwide.
Chaudhry adds the ban measure is taken based on the attitude of India against Pakistani citizens, cricketers, artists and actors.
He further claimed India crossed all the limits after Pulwama suicide attack by making Indian cricketers play match against Australia by wearing army caps.
The Pakistan Electornic Media Regulatory Authority has been tasked to ensure henceforth IPL matches are not televised in the country.
IPL kicked off this season on March 23.
