Indian Railways To Sack 1% Staff Who Are On Unauthorized Leaves 1

Indian Railway Minister Piyush Goyal could be sacking as many as 13,000 railway employees from its current workforce strength of about 13 lakh. It is learned those who have been on unauthorised leave for a long time will face the whip. This mean about 1 percent of the staff will be terminated.

In a press release the ministry said such step would improve the performance of Indian Railways and boost morale of sincere railway employees. The latest drive was to know number of long-term absentees and over thirteen thousand staff have been identified.

For a long period absent of employees have been a problem in Indian Railways and disciplinary action will be initiated by the organization, added the ministry’s release.

The ministry released a data of unauthorized absence and it reveals 13,521 employees have been on leave under such circumstances.

The ministry also added a total of 62,907 job vacancies are now available and the posts include Trackman, Cabinman, Leverman, Pointsman, Helper-II, Gr. D (Store), Keyman, Shunter, Welder, Fitter, Porter, Helper-II (Mech), Helper-II (S&T), Gr. D (Engg.), Gangman and Switchman.
