Indian Railways To Build High-Speed Train Corridors Connecting Cities 1

Soon all the major cities in India would be connected with high-speed train corridors to make trains run at the speed of 200 km per hour. A source said Indian Railways to announce a Rs 10 lakh-crore construction plan that would cover about 10,000 kilometers.

Expected to be announced in April, the Indian Railways would come out with large tenders facilitating all global majors, focusing on keeping the cost to minimal. The cost of construction in the plan is between Rs 100 crore to Rs 200 crore per km.

The corridors would be elevated, built on single pillar to facilitate double lines. Light-weight aluminum coaches for trains will be designed to run on electric traction.

The funding would be based on borrowings too from financial institutions and multilateral agencies.

The source added Railways minister Piyush Goyal has asked the officials to workout in achieving early implementation of the corridors construction.

Currently the ministry is constructing a bullet train corridor between Ahmedabad and Mumbai. It is 534 km long and covering a cost of Rs 1 lakh crore. The project is expected to be finished by the end of 2022.

The government will also be working on similar corridor between Delhi and Mumbai, Delhi and Chandigarh, Delhi and Kolkata, and Bengaluru and Chennai.
