Indian cop shoots Apple store manager Vivek Tiwari in Lucknow 1

A policeman on patrol duty on the night of Friday and Saturday shot dead an unarmed Apple store manager in Lucknow, capital city of Indian state Uttar Pradesh.

The 38-year-old Vivek Tiwari succumbed to his injuries after being taken to the Lohia hospital. His family has blamed UP government for the shooting by constable Prashant Chaudhary, who is now under arrest along with his colleague Sandeep Kumar, and an SIT has been formed under SP for investigation.

The Apple store manager was driving his car. He was accompanied by colleague Sana. At around 1.30 am, while driving through Lucknow’s upscale Gomtinagar extension area the police constable shot him claiming to have noticed a suspicious car with lights off.

Chaudhary said he shot in self-defence as Tiwari tried to run the car over him as he approached towards him.

Lohia hospital director Devendra Singh Negi said Tiwari succumbed to injuries after arriving. He had a bullet injury near to his left ear. He died during treatment.

An FIR has been launched against Chaudhary and other officers.

According to Director General of Police OP Singh, in initial findings it is learned the constable has wrongly acted and beyond the limit of self defence.

Meanwhile, Tiwari’s wife said police has no right to shoot him and demand Chief Ministery Yogi Adityanath to come and talk to her.

Kalpana Tiwari also demanded a CBI inquiry to the shooting, compensatgion of Rs 1 crore as well as a job in the police department.

Reacting angrily Tiwari’s brother-in-law questioned the action of police and asked whether the manager was a terrorist.

Tiwari’s uncle said it is a clear case of murder as a person is never shot in the neck citing he had earlier served as a police inspector.
