Hurricane Florence Hits Carolina as Category 1 1

Hurricane Florence crawled through Carolinas with heavy rains leaving five people dead, including a mother and her infant.

It made a landfall as a Category 1 hurricane but lost speed and categorized as a tropical storm Friday afternoon. The maximum sustained winds were 50 miles per hour. People were left trapped in flooded homes fearing more destruction and human suffering the next day.

Some of the towns looked like rushing rivers and North Carolina Gov. Roy Cooper said, “It’s relentless and excruciating and very slow.”

Rescue teams found road blocked in Hampstead while responding to 911 for cardiac arrest. They reached late and found the woman was dead. In Lenoir County two men lost their lives. One died while on search of his dogs outside and the other was electrocuted while hooking up a generator.

About 781,000 customers in North Carolina have no power and the same for 165,000 customers in South Carolina.

Meanwhile, the US Army forces and National Guard troops said they are in fully ready with their support feature like high water vehicles, rotary wing aircraft and water purification.

Hurricane Florence has shed rains of up to 40 inches and storm has pushed water inland. It is estimated there will be flooding miles and miles inland.
