Unplug the toaster to cool it

Cooling it off is important because sometimes the temperature inside the toaster could be too high and that could lead to injuries during the cleaning process.
Shake out food crumbs
Take your toaster to a trash can and shake it up completely in order to make sure that all the remaining crumbs from the toast rods are out and into the trash can. Some appliances even have a removable tray in the bottom that could be removed for getting rid of crumbs, you can do that too.
Make a solution for cleaning
Using the dishpan, you now have how to make a cleaning solution that you will use in the process. In order to make that, you will have to mix the solution of dishwashing liquid and warm water. If your toaster has a removable tray then dip that tray into the Soapy water and make sure all the dirt and crumbs are removed completely using a cloth or sponge.
