Christmas is a bit early in Syria. The eight-year Syrian war seems to have officially indicated winners and losers with the tweet of president Trump to withdraw US troops and handover the territory to dictators, murderers and terrorists.

For Russian president Vladimir Putin the US move is a green light to his country to remain in the war-torn country as long as he wishes. It is another good opportunity for him to pursue his personal Syrian agenda with no threats from Washington. Russia will consolidate its power base henceforth.

The Syrian president Bashar al-Assad believes his government now would require some more time to finish off the war that involves ethnic cleansing, unimaginable torture, chemical gassing of civilians and gulags.

The Syrian war started just with a peaceful demonstration of people demanding for freedom.

For Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan tweet of Trump is a blessing for him. Lately he held talks with Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani.

Turkey considered the Kurds in Syria as terrorists and US involvement in the territory meant empowering the Kurds. Now there would be no existential threat for Erdogan. He announced to be launching a new cross-border military operation against the Kurdish People’s Protection Units.

Turkish defence minister Hulusi Akar said the country is getting ready intensely for a military offensive east of the Euphrates River in Syria.

It is true US troop withdrawal means leaving the Kurds vulnerable to the Turks.

Is Trump wrong in his tweeted message that Syrian war is over?
