A global investors’ summit is scheduled to be held on October 12 in Jammu and Kashmir to garner opportunities for the state in sectors like health, education, agriculture and tourism.
This would be the first such global summit in the state after stripping of Article 370 from the Constitution that provides special status to J&K.
The announcement was made by the Principal Secretary, Commerce and Industry NK Chaudhary.
Mentioning that the summit would help providing a platform for startups he said, “Opportunities for sectors like tourism agriculture health education are welcome to be explored here in the state.”
However, Chaudhary added that there is no relation between the Article 370 and global investors’ summit.
Chaudhary was asked why the government wants the state to host such global investors’ summit when it is under lockdown now.
Chaudhary said it is hoped condition of Kashmir would improve by then.
The summit is scheduled to take place between October 12 and 14 in Srinagar and it is hoped more eight countries would take part in it.
After the strip of Article 370 the statement has been bifurcated into two union territories – Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh. Since then the region has been under a security lockdown and under the grip of several restrictions like ban of large gatherings and disconnection of phone likes as well as internet services.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the summit would attract investors and the state would benefit from rich resources.
