The new champion is France. The French team lifted World Cup trophy once again after 20 years defeating Croatia by 4-2 in a tough fight at Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow, Russia.
An 18th minute goal by Mandzukic kept France in lead from the beginning. The team went into half-time break with 2-1 lead. Later, two more goals in a span of six minutes in the 65th minute reflected France would emerge as the next world champion.
Belgium’s Thibaut Courtois grabbed the Golden Glove for being the best goalkeeper in the World Cup 2018 tournament while England’s captain Harry Kane was awarded the Golden Boot for his six goals achievement from seven games.
Portugal’s Cristiano Ronaldo, France’s Antoine Griezmann, Belgium’s Romelu Lukaku, France’s Kylian Mbappe and Russia’s Denis Cheryshev managed to net four goals each in the tournament.
Uruguay’s Edinson Cavani and Russia’s Artem Dzyuba scored three goals each in Russia.
Luka Modric was handed with The Golden Ball while Kylian Mbappe won the Young Player of The Tournament Award. After Pele he became the first teenager to score in a World Cup final. Pele grabbed it in 1958 World Cup.
Mbappe is 19-year-old while Pele was just 17 years and 249 days old when he was awarded with the trophy.
This is the second World Cup in a raw in which player from the losing side grabbed The Golden Ball award.
