Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Jordan and several other countries have announced respectively the holy month of Ramadan to begin on May 17, Thursday, and last day of Shaaban will be on Wednesday.
Wam in Dubai tweeted Tuesday nith the Ramadan crescent was not sighted today and so Ramadan will begin on Thursday.
The country’s committee for moon-sighting met after the Magrib prayer to declare the date for the beginning of Ramadan.
Saudi Arabia too said its moon-sighting committee was unable to sight the crescent Tuesday evening and hence the first day of Ramadan will be on May 17.
Following the announcement of Saudi Arabia the Crown Prince of Dubai, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, posted an announcement on Instagram mentioning Ramadan to begin on Thursday this year.
Meanwhile, the working hours in UAE has been reduced by the government for public sector as well as private for the whole month of Ramadan. The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources said the working hours will be from 9am to 2pm for public sector workers while the duration has been shortened by 2 hours for private sector employees.
Paid parking will be made free during the iftars in Ramadan in Dubai. However, there will be no such unpaid offer in the multi-level parking lots.
