Manu Bhaker and Heena Sidhu have claimed gold and silver medals respectively at the 21st Commonwealth Games (CWG 2018) in Gold Coast in the Women’s 10m Air Pistol event on Sunday.
Both played spectacularly and Bhaker made a new record with total of 240.9 points in the final round. Heena managed 234 points. The third place was grabbed by Australia’s Elena Galiabovitch with 214.9 points, bringing some cheers to the host country.
Meanwhile, weightlifter Punam Yadav too added a gold medal to India’s total in the 69kg category. She managed bronze medal in the 2014 Glasgow edition of Commonwealth Games and a silver at 2017’s Commonwealth Championships.
The silver and bronze metalists in the category were England’s Sarah Davies and Fiji’s Apolinia Vaivai.
Shooter Ravi Kumar became second runner and won bronze medal in the men’s 10m air riffle event.
Hopes of more gold medals are coming from boxing icon MC Mary Kon, the badminton and table tennis team.
Medal Tally
So far India has won 6 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze, which is rounded to 11. Australia is leading the tally with total 67 medals (23G, 20S and 24B) followed by England and Canada with 40 and 26 medals respectively.
