Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group’s aerialist, Yann Arnaud, fell from a dozen feet height during a perforance at the company’s show “VOLTA” in Tampa, Florida, on Saturday night.
The performer was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where he died later.
The entire team is shocked and devastated by the tragedy, and the performer was with them for more than 15 years, said CEO and president of the company Daniel Lamarre.
Releasing a press statement the company said to be cooperating fully with the investigating authorities and the last two performances in the city on Sunday have been canceled.
One of the audience at the Saturday show said he noted Yann strained holding onto the rope.
Julien Martinez added further, “You heard all the cries of the audience. There were children there and they were freaking out.”
A report of Tampa Bay Times claims the performer’s grip on one of his straps slipped.
A witness from the crowd said Yann was out cold and not moving the moment he fell down and made contact with the stage.
Another from the audience said on social media the next day, “Can’t stop thinking about the guy who fell last night @Cirque #Volta praying that he’s gonne be ok.”
