Car Rams Security Barrier at the US Capitol Police Officer Dies

An assailant rammed a car into police officers on security duty at the U.S. House of Representatives Capitol on Friday.

Two police officers were seriously injured in the incident. Later, one of the officers died while receiving treatment at the hospital.

 Police immediately opened fire on the assailant, who appeared to be holding a knife out of the car.

Subsequently, the man was rushed to the hospital along with the injured police officers. Local media reported that the assailant also died.

The incident struck shortly afternoon around 1: 00 pm in front of a checkpoint 100 yards from the Senate entrance at the Capitol building.

 A man driving a blue sedan went up and rammed his car into the barricades, according to the police, he went to two police officers in the North Barricade.

He got out of the car and ran with a knife towards the officers one of whom managed to draw a weapon and shot the suspect.

Security was packed at the Capitol following the January attack. The US Parliament is currently not in session.

In a press briefing, the U.S. Capitol Police Acting Chief Yogananda Pittman announced the death of the officer as she described the incident that took place around 1:00 pm local time.

Pittman said the suspect did not respond to the verbal orders and had been shot after he had lunged on the police officers.

The suspect who died was later identified as a 25-year-old Noah Green by several media outlets in the US, He was a follower of Louis Farrakhan, an Islamic leader, the assailant told his personal struggles in a series of posts on social media.

 Friday’s attack on the US Capitol Police comes less than three months after the attack by pro-Trump supporters, who breached the capitol on 6 January, attempting to block Joe Biden’s certification of presidential elections in 2020.

One Capitol Police Officer was killed After received injuries in the January assault, while the other two Capitol Police officers who responded to the attack committed suicide.
