Citing security risk a former spy chief said lately Canada should stop sourcing equipment for 5 networks from Chinese technology company Huawei.
Meanwhile, Chinese ambassador to Canada had earlier warned to be strongly reciprocating if the country blocks Huawei.
In recent months relations between the two countries have taken a sour turn following the arrest of Huawei executive in Vancouver on request of United States.
Besides all these updates the Canadian officials are studying security implications of the upcoming generation networks and a source said the report may not be coming soon.
Former head of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service spy agency Richard Fadden said there are evidences which could lead to the blocking of Huawei in the country.
Fadden served between 2009 and 2013. In an article he wrote, “Canada’s government should ignore the threats and ban Huawei from Canada’s 5G networks to protect the security of Canadians.”
Some of the allies of Canada have started imposing restrictions on the equipments supplied by Huawei citing risk of espionage.
Canadian Public Safety Minister Ralph Goodale said others companies are in line for supplying latest equipment for the 5th generation networks. However, he didn’t name any.
