Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said India would become ‘Hindu Pakistan’ if Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) wins the upcoming Lok Sabha elections next year.
The well-recognized minister in UPA government was addressing an event in Thiruvananthapuram and added further that the BJP will write a new Constitutuion to create room for Pakistan-like nation where there would be no respect for minorities.
Tharoor added, “If they win a repeat… our democratic constitution as we understand it will not survive as they will have all the elements they need to tear apart the constitution of India and write a new one.”
He continued addressing that the BJP government will enshrine Hindu Rashtra principles paving way to remove equality for minorities.
He said Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, Maulana Azad, Sardar Patel and other great heroes of our freedom struggle never fought for such a nation.
However, his statement has been criticized by BJP demanding apology from Congress president Rahul Gandhi.
BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said Gandhi must apologize to the statement of Tharoor and Congress is defaming Hindus of India.
Taking to Twitter he added Congress don’t lose any opportunity to defame Hindus and demean India.
