The Assembly election scheduled for five states and one union territory has been released.
Central Election Commission (CEC) Chief Commissioner Sunil Arora on Friday announced the schedule for the Assembly elections in Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and the Union Territory of Puducherry.
Assembly Elections will be held for 140 assembly seats in Kerala, 126 in Assam, 234 in Tamil Nadu, 294 in West Bengal, and 30 in Puducherry.
Besides, the schedule for by-elections to 34 seats in 16 states has also been released.
The Election Commission said the election will be held with all precautions in the wake of the coronavirus.
Elections will be held in April. Apart from these, the schedule has also been released for the Tirupati Lok Sabha in Andhra Pradesh and the Nagarjuna Sagar Assembly in Telangana.
The election results will be announced on May 2.
Highlights in the schedule
- Positions in all five assemblies are 824.
- The total electorate is 18.68 crore.
- A total of 2.70 lakh polling stations.
All four states should participate in the house campaign along with the candidate.
- Only five vehicles are allowed for the roadshow.
- Opportunity to use the postal ballot for those over the age of 80.
- In the wake of the corona outbreak, a polling station is set up for every one thousand people. Previously there was one booth for 1,500 voters.
- Corona vaccination is mandatory for all staff involved in election duties.
- Candidates can file their nominations online for the first time ever. The Election Commission took this decision in the wake of the corona outbreak.
- Elections will be held from March 27.
- Election results announced on May 2.
Code of Conduct in force for assembly elections of five states
Assam
Elections for 126 seats in three tranches. The first phase of polling will be held on March 27 (47 assembly seats). Elections for the second and third installments on April 1. 6.33 thousand polling stations will be set up.
Tamil Nadu
Elections will be held in a single tranche for 234 assembly seats. Polling on April, 6.89 thousand polling stations will be set up.
Kerala
Polling for 140 seats in a single installment Election on April 6th. Polling will be held in 40,000 polling stations.
West Bengal
West Bengal, the largest assembly with 294 seats.
Polling will be held on March 27, April 1, 6, 10, 17, 22, 26, 29. More than one lakh polling stations will be set up for the elections to be held in 8 tranches.
Puducherry
Polling will be held in a single tranche in the 30-seat Union Territory of Puducherry. Polling will be held on April 6. Establishment of 1,500 polling stations.
