Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is stepping down by the end of the season. He issued a statement on Friday and announced his retirement, thanking the club and players who allowed him to serve for so many years.
Wenger said after careful consideration he has taken the decision of departure and he has talked about it with the club too.
The Frenchman added he has managed the club with integrity and commitment, and a new manager will soon be appointed.
Earlier on Thursday, while talking to the media, he said former Gunners captain Patrick Vieira could succeed him as manager of Arsenal as he has all the potentiality.
He urged the club lovers to take care of the values of Arsenal and his support as well as love will be with them for ever.
Press Association Sport reveals the manager had asked the club to hold off the announcement as he wanted to inform the players first. His coaching staff were informed earlier too.
In recent months Wenger’s performance as manager was questioned and it was speculated his future has been rampant.
Wenger was appointed in 1996 when no one knew him in England. In 1998 he led the team to a domestic double.
