Amazon is broadening its market reach in India and the company expects household products and groceries to account for more than half of its business in the period of next five years.
India head of Amazon, Amit Agarwal, said Friday the largest product category currently on Amazon are soaps, creams and other similar goods in terms of number of units sold in the country.
He added the company could launch AmazonFresh in the period to deliver products like ice cream and potato in just two hours.
The AmazonFresh was launched in the United States market about a decade ago and it is the flagship fresh grocery delivery service of Amazon. As of now the company has partnered with local vendors in four cities in India to implement delivering the products in two hours.
Adding further Agarwal said, “Probably in the next five years groceries and consumables would be more than half of our business.”
It is learned the e-commerce market in the country to grow to $200 billion in a decade as online shopping is increasing due to cheap mobile data.
As of now Amazon has more than 100 million registered users in India and Agarwal mentioned the company is seeking for the next hundred millionn customers.
India is Asia’s No. 3 economy and in 2018 about 500 million people are using internet. The country is now a huge e-commerce battleground.
