Al-Naim Square is a traffic signal or let’s say a spiral circle in the Syrian capital Raqqa. This place turned from a lover’s lane to a death lane during the ISIS rule. Once witnessing the deadly venue for public executions today the lace has started to heal.
There was a time when people stayed away from this place scared of seeing someone they know being executed in public but now the place has started to heal. It is a beautiful place where lovers, family, friends gather and enjoy a precious day together, however, from 2014 to 2017, the area was bloodied and terrorized by ISIS terrorists.

Moreover, jihadists in the area have been enforcing their Islamic Sharia law in the square, such as flag hoisting, crucifixion, and beheading of those considered apostates or criminals. This led the locals to call the place the “Roundabout of Hell”.
Hussein, a local man, said he was too scared to go out to meet his girlfriend at the time in the fear of death. But now he is free to walk around with his family, sip tea in the circle. After ISIS left the city it has just returned to its former glory.
Not to mention that people are just emerging from the dark ages of jihad. In fact, Al-Naim (paradise) is a well-rounded open space with a traffic circle. There is a pleasant place with dazzling electric lights with beautiful fountains on one side and bustling with nice restaurants on the other. But there is no doubt that the Syrians still see the hellish, horrific scenes they experienced when they arrived at the place.
