About five tons people were poisoned in the recent chemical attack in Syria, reveals World Health Organization (WHO) adding further that 43 of them died from symptoms consistent with exposure to highly to toxic chemicals.
WHO released a statement on Wedneday mentioning signs of severe irritatio of nucous membranes, disruption to central nervous systems and respiratory failure were found.
However, Syrian ambassador to the UN in Geneva has questioned the credibility of the report saying the incident has been staged.
Damascus too has dismissed the report saying it is false.
WHO has lately demanded for immediate unhindered access to the area in Douma which was attacked to provide care to those affected and to deliver comprehensive public health respose.
According to the organization about 800 Syrian health workers have been trained to recognize symptoms and treat the people who were exposed to chemical weapons.
It added more than seventy people who were taking shelter in basements have died after the chemical attack.
Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said use of toxic agents is a clear violation of international law.
