World Sight Day is celebrated on the second Thursday of October every year with the aim of raising awareness about vision loss, blindness, and vision problems.
The International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness has announced that it will celebrate this day on October 14 this year under the slogan Love Your Eyes.
In the year 2000, the Lions Club International Foundation’s Site First Campaign launched World Vision Day. The program has since been run by the International Agency for the Prevention of Blindness as part of the Vision Global Initiative. The campaign calls on everyone around the world to participate and focus on their eye health.
By 2030, member states have set two new world goals. They aim to achieve a 40 percent growth in refractive error prevention and a 30 percent increase in cataract surgery coverage. It is hoped that this will also play a key role in providing quality services in eye care in the future.
