Differences in size sometimes appear when going to a clothing store. For those who use ‘L’ size regularly .. ‘XL’ is suitable for another brand. Many people make the mistake of looking at it and depending on the brand. But, the thing is that it is not. The differences are because they are measured in foreign sizes. Our country in particular has gone without one called Clothing Measurement. That is why the textile and sandal manufacturing industries in the UK and US still rely on foreign measurements. People are buying clothes with beautiful measurements. The ‘IndiaSize’ survey is just beginning to check this out.

The purpose of the survey

‘INDIAsize’. The survey was initiated by the Union Ministry of Textiles in collaboration with the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT). New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, and Shillong are being surveyed by dividing the major cities into six zones. Attempts were made to create a measurement chart for the dress, taking measurements in the thousands. The survey will be conducted based on body measurements of 15 to 65-year-olds. The project, which was announced in 2019 with the support of the Clothing Manufacturers Association of India, was delayed by Corona. The Indiasize survey finally started in Delhi last Thursday. 5,700 people will take part in the first round. By the end of 2022, the survey will be completed.

What is the use?

The second largest industry in the country is the textile industry. With annual revenue of Rs 140 billion, Rs 100 billion comes from local consumers. This survey will be useful to avoid confusion of measurements. These dimensions will play a key role in offline shopping. As part of the return policy, neither the staff nor the customer will have to turn around. The survey will also be useful for manufacturers. Increase sales will help manufacturers to overcome problems such as return goods.

How do you do that?

The survey will continue based on anthropometric data. Measurements are determined based on 100 data points‌. NIFT Director General Shantamu revealed that measurements will be taken on the selected candidates using ‘Human Safe 3D Wall Body Scanner’ technology. It takes about 15 minutes to scan each person. Thus the survey will be completed faster without the need for tailors and experts. He said that in the meantime, the survey process for sandals and shoes will begin.

The first recorded instance sizing survey in the history of the garment industry. In 1921 it was conducted exclusively for men. However, anthropometry (according to human body measurements) dates back to 1939. Fifteen thousand American women at that time designed dresses based on measurements. Since then, some countries have been designing clothing and sandals specifically based on the anatomy of their people

So Sooner we will be able to see Indian measurement sizes for our dresses, shoes, etc. We need not depend upon the UK ,US ,and Mexican measurements in the coming future if we have our measurements which will help textile merchants and clothing brands to follow similar systems for their garments in the future. So what do you think about the Indian measurement system for garments and textiles do let us know in the comments.
