Courage of girls of a madrassa in Lucknow resulted with the arrest of convener alleged to have sexually harassed inmates of the institution.
The all-girls madrassa is located on Campbell Road in Saadatganj area and neighbors were alarmed after finding paper slips thrown by the students mentioning ordeal at houses. Madrassa proprietor Sayyed Mohammed Jilani Ashraf contacted cops and the action was taken, resulting with the arrest of madrassa convener on Friday night.
Ashraf briefed SSP Deepak Kumar about some girls being held captive and threatened. The Jamiya Khadeezatul Lilmominat madrassa was raided by a joint team of police and administration at around 9 pm. Fifty-one girls were rescued.
It is learned there were a total of 126 girls in the madrassa who came from various states.
Police said, “Out of them, seven have leveled charges of sexual abuse and attempt to rape against the convenor, Tayyab Zia.”
The police added Zia appeared to have a high-profile links and is a serial offender.
Kumar said a 15-year-old girl has leveled harassment charges in writing. She alleged seven other girls were molested too by the convener.
The girls said, “When we resisted we were tortured and beaten mercilessly.”
Parents of the girls have been informed and the girls are learned to be sent to Nari Niketan.
