Russia Records Significant Number Of Delta Virus Deaths For The Second Day In A Row

The situation in Russia is becoming alarming day by day due to the rapidly spreading delta variant. The country is dealing with an increase in infections caused by the extremely contagious Delta variant, as well as low immunization rates.

There were record-breaking covid-19 deaths for the second day in a row. On Wednesday, the Russian government announced that 21,042 positive cases had been registered in the past 24 hours, while 669 deaths had been reported highest since December 2020.

These are the highest number of covid-19 deaths recorded in a single day since the onset of the Delta variant epidemic in the country.

 According to local officials, the number of cases registered in Russia so far has risen to 55,14,599, bringing the death toll to 1,35,214.

Officials have also been accused of underreporting deaths by only recording cases in which coronavirus was proven to be the primary cause of death after the autopsy.

Meanwhile, Infections have increased in Saint Petersburg and Moscow in recent weeks, prompting officials to reintroduce virus restrictions and accelerate their sputtering vaccine campaign. St. Petersburg, which hosted the Euro 2020 football tournament (quarter-finals) last Friday, has become a hot spot. Covid deaths are ragging in the city.

 Sanctions are in force in the capital, Moscow, in the wake of the alarming delta variant situation.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin stated the Delta variant was responsible for 90 percent of covid cases reported across the city. As many as 20,616 delta cases and 652 deaths were reported in Russia on Tuesday.

President Putin has once again called on all Russians to be vaccinated in the wake of rising covid-19 cases and deaths in the country. Putin has said that in the wake of the reluctance of many in Russia to take the vaccine, “everyone should be vaccinated.”

He also stated that he had taken the country-developed vaccine “sputnik.”
