The severe rains in Sri Lanka created flash floods and mudslides, killing at least six people and leaving five persons missing, and has left 5,000 people homeless.
Heavy rains have lashed six districts in Sri Lanka since Thursday night due to the impact of a cyclone in the Indian Ocean.
Six areas of the Indian Ocean Island have been seriously affected, and numerous homes, paddy fields, and roads have been flooded, and transportation was blocked.
According to the Government Disaster Management Center, four individuals died during floods, while another two died in slides, and five have gone missing in either of the situations.
Many houses, paddy fields, and roads were submerged in the rains. On Saturday in Kegalle district, around 85 kilometers (5,325 miles) east of the capital of Colombo, a mound of rubble smashed into a house, burying four of the same family – parents and two children.
The rescue team rushed to the village as they received the information, removed the bodies, and exhumed them.
Hiru, local television showed soldiers and people clearing mud and scraps in order to recover the casualties. The daughter’s body was uncovered afterward.
According to government figures, 5,000 people have been relocated to provisional shelters, and over 600 homes have been damaged.
