Outrage poured Thursday across Uttar Pradesh and several other states after the Unnao rape survivor was set ablaze by the two accused and three others. She suffered 90 percent burns and was admitted to Lucknow’s SPM Civil Hospital. For better treatment she was later airlifted to Delhi’s Safdarjung hospital.
Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath said state government will bear all the treatment expenses of the 20-year-old who was gang raped last year in December in Unnao district of Bihar.
All the five men were arrested within hours and two among them were earlier booked for raping her.
Meanwhile, National Commission for Women (NCW) has sought for a detailed report from Uttar Pradesh DGP OP Singh about the action of police after the incident, number of rape crimes in the state in past three years along with how many of the accused were granted bails.
The five accused who set the Unnao rape survivor ablaze are Ram Kishore Trivedi, Harishankar Trivedi, Umesh Bajpai, Shubham Trivedi and Shivam.
The victim said the men attacked her and set fire while she was on her way from Unnao to Rai Bareli.
Her case is registered in Rae Bareli and she was going to pursue it.
Briefing the horrific incident to Sub Divisional Magistrate Dayashankar Pathak lying on a hospital bed in Lucknow the victim said when she reached Gaura turn near her home the five men attacked her and set her afire.
It is learned she ran for a while and eyewitnesses came to her aid.
