Sunni Board to decide whether to accept land for masjid

The Sunni Central Waqf Board is yet to decide whether to accept the 5-acre land from Centre for the construction of a mosque as directed by Supreme Court on Saturday while reading out the judgment for Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid dispute case of Ayodhya.
According to Chairman Zufar Farooqui of UP Sunni Central Waqf Board, its general body meeting is to be held on November 26 and the board is to decide whether to accept the 5-acre land.

He added, “The meeting was earlier scheduled on November 13 but it was postponed and is now expected on November 26. I am getting diverse views on taking the land but I personally feel negativity can be won only with positivity.”

Farooqui further said that many are advising the land should not be taken but he feels it will increase negativity.

Some persons have advised the board to accept the land and build an educational institution in it along with a mosque in the same premises.

If the board decides to accept the land, it is to be seen how to take and what would be the conditions on it.

Farooqui said the board welcomes verdict of the apex court in the Babri Masjid land dispute case and has no plans to challenge it.

Last month the board proposed withdrawing claim on the land in national interest but with some conditions.
