Arun Jaitley's health condition critical

Condition of former finance minister Arun Jaitley is learned to be critical and according to sources home minister Amit Shah rushed to AIIMS late Friday.

Health bulletin from AIIMS is awaited. Arun Jaitley was admitted on August 9. Health minister Dr Harsh Vardhan too visited the hospital last night.

Last week Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, BJP working president J P Nadda, MoS for Health Ashwini Choubey, and Loktantric Janata Dal chief Sharad Yadav visited Arun Jaitley at AIIMS.

A lawyer by profession, Arun Jaitley was also admitted to AIIMS in May this year for treatment.

Arun Jaitley did not contest this year in the Lok Sabha elections citing his ill-health. During the first tenure of Modi as prime minister he had been an important part of the Cabinet. He had held defence and finance portfolios. He was also the chief troubleshooter of the government.

About a year ago Arun Jaitley underwent renal transplant. He stopped attending office early April 2018 and Piyush Goyal filled in then his finance ministry chair. He however returned back to the post on August 23, 2018.

The senior BJP leader had undergone bariatric surgery in September 2014 to correct his weight gained due to long-standing diabetic condition.
